Class Description:

Scholastic Writing is an intensive workshop for advanced writers who wish to develop competition-level pieces. Students experiment with creative and analytical genres such as personal narrative, poetry, and short fiction, as well as critical essays. The course includes drafting, revising, and polishing work suitable for contests like the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.


About the Instructor:

Mr. James is a seventh-grade English Language Arts teacher at Salem Middle School with 25 years of experience in education. He has also been teaching at Champion for the past year, where both students and parents value his engaging and supportive teaching style. James holds dual state licenses in Middle Grades Language Arts and Elementary Education, along with Montessori certifications for lower and upper elementary. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in French from Calvin University and a Master’s degree in English specializing in American Literature. In addition to teaching, he has coached soccer and taught violin. He is dedicated to helping Champion students grow as readers, writers, and critical thinkers.
