Class Description:
High School Essay Writing focuses on the types of essays students need for advanced English classes and standardized tests. Students practice literary analysis, expository, and argumentative essays, with attention to thesis, structure, and style. Timed writing practice helps them prepare for in-class essays and exams.
About the Instructor:
Mr. Friedman holds degrees in English and Philosophy from Washington and Lee University and a Master’s in Modern American Literature. After teaching at several colleges, he spent 20 years at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh, where he taught AP English Language and Composition and guided students in writing and college essay preparation. In 2014, he received the Susan Scott Daly Excellence in Teaching Award and also founded the Coffeehouse Club, giving students a space to share their creativity.
